Joe and Monica Leo are two truly kind, generous and thoughtful people. Their contribution to supporting the South Sea Islander community has made a difference to the lives of many. Joe is a charismatic leader who has helped create opportunities and pathways for many of the local youths in the Yeppoon district of North Queensland. He was instrumental in the Queensland Government recognising the South Sea Islander community as a unique ethnic group in 2000. He is famously quoted as saying “We are not just faces in the crowd”. Monica is a gently spoken woman whose soft voice, kind eyes and the warmth of spirit are immediately captivating. She is a dedicated leader, carer, mother, wife and friend who is loved are respected by all who meet her. Joe is ‘Adventure’, Monica is ‘Lullaby’ and they share a very special place in the community of Yeppoon. Their shared dedication to family and community are an inspiration.

Birth of the Rivers Children & Mixed
Dedicated to Yugambeh People of the Gold Coast Region
The Yugambeh People of the Gold Coast Region used story, song and music as essential modes to communicate traditional knowledge, pass on events and make public proclamations. ‘Birth of the Rivers’ is one such story written and collected by Mr Arthur Groom in 1938. It explains the creation of the landscapes, describes the land boundaries and identifies kinship ties.
‘The mountains and rivers, and valleys have grown very, very old. Nowadays, standing on old Tambourine’s (Jamborin) southern shoulder, you may see the valleys of Coomera (Koomoroo) and Canungra (Caningera) carved deeply into the landscape. The Coomera River takes most of the Tambourine waters and quickly reaches the ocean, while the Canungra meanders slowly away west of Tambourine. High up in the middle of the Lamington National Park gnarled old Wanungara still gazes out at lonely Nimbin. The strong South Wind blows her hair as she sings to the princesses Toolona and Caningera through the ancient beech trees, reminding them of the mountain from which they have sprung. Harley's professional advice to conductors which shares a lot of anecdotal stories from his own conducting experiences as well as his passion for composing. Included are 11 perusal scores written by Harley. Foreword- are the eulogies written by Peter Ingram, Paul Jarman and Josephine Bottrell.
There is also an epilogue from Julie Christiansen OAM entitled 'What I have learned from Harley'. All proceeds will contribute to Harley's legacy fund.
